SAN FRANCISCO — OpenAI announced a major update for ChatGPT Enterprise this week. Companies can now choose exactly where their data is stored. Executives are relieved. They want to know precisely which country their data is in before the AI completely misreads it.
The new feature helps with strict local laws. It ensures sensitive files stay in specific regions like Europe or Japan. “It is vital that our financial records are stored in Dublin,” said David Miller, Director of Compliance Theater at a global bank. “This way, when the AI invents fake numbers based on those records, we know the fake numbers are legally Irish. It makes the errors feel more compliant.”
Companies previously worried about data floating around the world. Now they have control. They can point to a specific server rack. It gives them peace of mind while the AI writes weird emails to clients. “Location is everything,” noted Elena Ross, VP of Digital Anxiety. “I sleep better knowing my confidential strategy documents are being ignored on a server in Frankfurt, not a server in Iowa. It just feels more professional to have my data misunderstood locally.”
At press time, OpenAI announced a premium feature allowing companies to choose which specific hard drive their data will be deleted from by accident.
