Executive Screams That Seven Million Dollar Wall Is Working Perfectly

MEMPHIS, TN — The ground near the supercomputer facility shook hard enough to rattle teeth in their sockets. The air felt thick with a mechanical whine that sounded like a million vacuum cleaners fighting a jet engine inside a metal trash can. A shiny new wall stood between the massive turbines and the residential neighborhood. It looked expensive. It looked sturdy. It was vibrating so violently that it appeared blurry to the naked eye.

xAI Director of Sonic Gaslighting, Marcus Thorne, stood three feet from the beige barrier. He motioned for attention with a confident wave. He held up a clipboard showing a chart with a downward trend line, but the sonic pressure from the turbines ripped the paper from the metal clip and sent it flying into the stratosphere. He smiled confidently anyway. He pointed to his ears and then to the wall, miming a sleeping pillow. A nearby pigeon tried to land on the fence and was immediately bounced off by the sheer force of the sound waves.

“AS YOU CAN HEAR, IT IS BASICALLY A LIBRARY OUT HERE NOW,” bellowed Thorne, his face turning purple from the effort of shouting over the deafening roar. “THE SEVEN MILLION DOLLARS WAS WELL SPENT. THE NEIGHBORS ARE WRONG. I CAN BARELY HEAR THE TURBINES UNLESS I REALLY FOCUS.” He paused to wipe a small trickle of blood from his left ear.

Thorne offered a final thumbs-up, turned to leave, and was knocked sideways by a sudden invisible blast of exhaust from the silent wall.
