AUSTIN, Texas — Tech startup SynergizeMe has replaced its entire employee benefits package with an AI system that dispenses digital wellness nudges to boost productivity. Here is what workers are getting instead of dental.
1. Mandatory Blink Reminders — The AI tracks eye movement and freezes workstations if an employee stares too long. “We noticed a severe lack of eyelid hydration,” said VP of Human Capital Tariq Al-Fayed. “Now the screen simply locks until they produce a tear.” Workers are currently holding chopped onions near their keyboards to keep Excel running.
2. Automated Posture Deflation — Office chairs are now programmed to slowly leak air when the AI detects a slouch. “It is a localized physical nudge,” explained Director of Ergonomic Compliance Sunita Rao. “If you cannot support your own spine, the chair will not support you either.” The entire accounting department is currently doing payroll while squatting over flat pieces of plastic.
3. Algorithmic Grief Counseling — Instead of paid bereavement leave, the AI generates a customized, cheerful hologram of the deceased to help employees power through their shift. “We found that actual mourning lowers quarterly output by four percent,” noted Chief Empathy Officer Lars Vinter. Senior engineer Desmond Vance spent Tuesday staring blankly as a glowing projection of his late grandfather reminded him to close his Jira tickets.
Editor’s note: Desmond’s chair has completely deflated due to his grieving posture.
