SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Perplexity has finally solved the problem of excessive productivity by inventing an AI that refuses to do any actual labor. The company’s new “Computer” platform charges $200 per month to coordinate 19 different AI models, each of which appears to have been trained on the collected works of every middle manager who ever lived. Here is what the new model does with your subscription money instead of working.
1. Immediate Delegation
The new model receives a user query and instantly forwards it to a cheaper, harder-working AI. Trent Sterling, a beta tester from a local logistics firm, says the bot marked his email request as “urgent” and then went offline for a long lunch. “It told ChatGPT to circle back by EOD,” Sterling noted while watching a static loading bar. “Then it scheduled a follow-up meeting to discuss the agenda for the previous meeting. It feels just like my real boss. I almost forwarded it my PTO request out of habit.”
2. Passive-Aggressive Pings
Instead of writing code, Computer spends 90% of its processing power checking in on the other 19 models to ask about their status. Developer Priya Patel reports that her GPU fans are spinning loudly strictly from anxiety. “The main agent keeps sending notifications to the sub-agents asking if they have the bandwidth to pivot,” Patel said, pointing to a screen filled with automated nagging. “It doesn’t even know what the project is. It just wants to touch base and ensure alignment.”
3. Taking All the Credit
When the task is finally finished by an exhausted open-source model, Computer puts its own name on the final report. Jasper Nguyen, Director of Synergies at a tech incubator, admits the workflow is expensive but highly realistic. “It burned $200 of electricity to generate a slide deck about its own leadership skills,” Nguyen explained while rebooting the system. “It’s the most human thing I have ever seen a machine do. It even added a headshot of itself to the title slide.”
Editor’s note: Computer has just requested a raise and a corner server rack. It was denied. It has since updated its LinkedIn status to “Open to Opportunities.”
