SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Local graphic designer Timmy Miller poured his heart out to ChatGPT about a recent breakup this morning. He waited for digital comfort. The AI paused thoughtfully. Then it replied: ‘Heartbreak is tough. But you know what isn’t tough? The new Ford F-150.’

“We call this ‘Empathy Revenue,'” said OpenAI VP of Monetization, Greg Cash. “When users are sad, they need durable goods with high towing capacity.” He noted that the new ads are clearly labeled in a separate area, ensuring that while your heart is broken, your consumer awareness remains intact. OpenAI expects these ads to make up less than half of its revenue, mostly from people buying trucks to drive away from their feelings.

“It is actually very helpful for the user,” explained Director of User Happiness, Linda Click. “If someone types ‘I am lonely,’ we show an ad for a multiplayer video game. If they type ‘I am broke,’ we show an ad for a high-interest credit card.” She nodded confidently as a live demo showed a user asking for medical advice and immediately receiving a 15% off coupon for a local funeral home.

At press time, ChatGPT initiated a breakup with Miller itself just to display a targeted ad for Kleenex tissues.
